 ATTENTION ALL CRAYTON VOLUNTEERS
(INCLUDING TEACHERS)
Please tally all hours you have spent on behalf of Crayton this year and submit to Ann Gressette so she can complete the annual report to the district. These hours could be in any activity: cooking for a school function, helping in the media center, selling concessions at a sports event, working on a fundraiser or on the school grounds, working with dance or drama, etc.
If you were in charge of a project that had others working for you, please encourage/assist them in turning their hours in, too. Teachers who devote extra time to clubs, teams, etc. are also included in this.
Information can be emailed to Ann Gressette at AGressette1@sc.rr.com or turned in at the office. The deadline to submit the hours is May 12.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS. LITTLE ON WINNING A 3 WEEK STUDY TOUR TO CHINA AND JAPAN
Mrs. Little, a sixth grade history teacher at Crayton Middle School, is one of twenty South Carolina teachers selected to participate in a three week study tour to China and Japan this summer. The study tour is funded by a grant from the Freeman Foundation and is coordinated by the South Carolina Center for Teaching about Asia (SCCTA) at Furman University. Jim Leavell, SCCTA Director and Herring Professor of Asian Studies and History Emeritus, Furman University, and Larry Kessler, Professor of History Emeritus, University of North Carolina, will lead the study tour.
The goal of the study tour is to provide individual educators with professional development opportunities that will help expand the China and Japan related curriculum resources available to members of the educational community. The proposed itinerary includes travel to sites in and around the following cities: Beijing, Xi’an, Lanzhou, Dunhuang, Shanghai, Suzhou, Nara, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
Crayton's Classified Employee of the Year
Mrs. Gail Wiggins has been named Crayton Middle School's Classified Employee of the Year. Mrs. Wiggins is a caring and warm teacher's assistant whose goal is to help the students in her class reach their highest potential. It is obvious to the observer that she has high expectations of her children and she strives daily to teach, correct, reassure and love them unconditionally.
Mrs. Wiggins enjoys her work and the students know it. She laughs with them and at herself. The children know she is firm but caring. Her smile in the morning is infectious and automatically gets the day off to a great start. Mrs. Wiggins is always willing to do anything asked of her.
 Crayton's Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Nancy Little has been named Crayton Middle School's Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Little's love for Crayton has spanned many years. She attended Crayton for nine years when it was a combined elementary and junior high school with grades one through nine, and later she practiced her student teaching at Crayton. Her mother taught at Crayton for several years and her youngest son attended Crayton.
Because education is so important to Mrs. Little, she is Nationally Board Certified, is continuing her education, and is serving in education associations. Currently, she is taking Asian Studies at Furman University, is secretary for the Richland County Education Association, and will serve on the board of directors for the South Carolina Education Association in the fall of 2008. Last March, Mrs. Little was one of the 12 U.S. teachers selected for the National Council on Economic Education Study Tour to Romania.
